Books I'm Bringing On Vacay

Right now, I'm driving through the mountainside with the wind blowing through my hair, heading for a week at the lake...

Sounds nice, right? Well, it's true. Thankfully, I pre-wrote this blog for ya guys. Just in case you actually cared. Moment of silence for my crushed ego...

Nooo. Maybe. Maybe...

Well, anyways. Vacay is awesome! But you know what else is awesome?

Reading books while on vacay.

Although reading that really doesn't sound very awesome. Promise! It is! So, without further boring you to your death, let's jump right in!

BUT FIRST. My feelings about lake water:

MOVING ON.

Vacay Book #1: The Star-Touched Queen, by Rashani Chokshi

This book looks glorious. Mostly just the cover does it for me. I'm a really picky cover person. If a cover is ugly, it doesn't mean I won't buy it, but a pretty cover is always a welcome bonus. Also, I'm obsessed with stars. Yes.

But I'm excited to read it. I've had it for a bit of time and just haven't gotten around to it. It's about this princess named Maya whose horoscope promises a marriage of death and destruction. Wow, that's just great for her. Poor girl, really. Of course daddy marries her off for a political alliance to a dude named Amar, and this is where things get all...interesting I guess. The land Amar rules, Akaran, is full of all kinds of intriguing secrets, which is mostly why I thought it would be a cool read. I mean gardens of glass, locked doors, and a tree that gives memories? I'm game for that any day, yes.

I've heard Rashani Chokshi's writing style is really beautiful, and after reading Caraval (I promise I will feature it as a recommended read soon) I needed something else with beautiful, flowery writing. So here's to chilling by the lake, hoping a snake doesn't eat me, or bears too, and reading this baby.

Vacay Book #2: The Siren, by Kiera Cass

Basically, it's a retelling of The Little Mermaid, so I'm game for it. I've talked about this before in my Amazon Unboxing post, but just in case you forgot: It's a retelling of The Little Mermaid.

I'm such a jerk. No, but really. It follows a mermaid, or siren, named Kahlen who falls for a human dude named Akinli. Here's to hoping Akinli lives in Hawaii, because that's where I actually want to be right now. But, you know, if she falls in love with a human, it breaks all the Ocean codes or whatever. So...drama.

Well, that's all I have for today. I know. Only two books? I'm kind of realistic and I do plan on actually reading these and finishing them. So, yes, only two very reasonable book choices.

Gotta go get attacked by a bear. HAH. Hopefully not.

Over and out, booknerdians. ✌

Lots of 💙 and 🍵,

Liz
