SHUT UP AND READ.

Hey, hey, hey...

How's it going?

What's up fellow book nerds? It's a good day. It's a good day. I repeated that twice. Yup.

So I'm starting something new. Something fun. Something fancy. Something I like to call SHUT UP AND READ.

Shut up and read with me! Hmm? Hmm?

Back to the point. SHUT UP AND READ is a Saturday series I'm creating. They're recommendations of a book, or series, that I've read that crushed my soul. And if you've been here for a minute, soul killing and crushing just means I loved it. I loved it a lot. Mhm.

So without further ado, and resisting the urge to ramble my buns off, let's swish, swash, swoosh into this weeks SHUT UP AND READ recommendations.

Oooooh, mysterious picture, no?

The Doon Series, by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon. Duel authors. Now I know this isn't a huge, multi-bagillion dollar series. But hey. This. Series. Kills. It kills souls, hearts, everything.

It follows two bff's, Kenna and Veronica, who venture off on a summer trip to Scotland, and cross a bridge into another world. Kilts? Yes. Since I've done something similar with my bff, the mere description of it drew me in. But how was I to know that I would fangirl over this series? How? Truthfully, I want everyone to fan over this series as much as I do (I mean I read this whole series in a few days -huhr, huhr, huhr). So strap in and enjoy your ride through the wonderful land of Doon (complete with gorg scottish dudes to die over).

BOOK #1, Doon
Oh. By the way, it's a four book series. Did I forget to mention that?

Moving onward!

The first book is great. Great. I'm being completely serious. As I said before, bff's Kenna and Veronica (lovingly called "Vee" by her bff), venture off to Scotland together for the summer.

BUT WAIT.
Before that, Vee is having a pretty miserable time with her life. Her home life is hella screwy, her mom's boyfriend is gross, and she hasn't seen her bff, Kenna, for ages. Kenna moved away a bit ago. We've all been there. Moment of silence. Anyways, Vee starts seeing visions of a pretty good looking Scottish dude before she even makes it to Scotland. Hmmm.

Flash forward and she is in Scotland with her adorbs bff Kenna. Kenna's awesome. She loves musicals and dreams of being a broadway star someday. Adore her. Ken and Vee are staying in Ken's Aunt's cottage for the summer. DON'T WE ALL WISH? In some mysterious way-that-I-can't-tell-you-because-it-spoils-things, they wind up crossing a bridge and venturing into the magical world of Doon.

I want to cross a bridge right now. Without giving too much away, they meet two hot butt princes, Jamie and Duncan MaCrae of Castle MaCrae. Yes. You know where this is going. I know more people will fend towards Jamie because of his broodiness, but Duncan is a beautiful, fluttery, pretty thing. He has a good heart paired with good looks.

The first book is filled with magic, witches, spells, and adventure! It took me away to a new land and destroyed my heart. I love it so much. Except the ending will punch you in the face. REALLY HARD. It still hurts, to be real.

BOOK #2, Destined for Doon
After Kenna punches Duncan in the heart in the last book (oh my god, I cannot tell you anything because spoilers), things take a dark turn. Not only for the two of them, but for Vee as well (who is still residing in Doon at the moment). It's filled with second book angst, and made me want to punch both Kenna and Duncan in their smug butt faces. But I love them so much. The ending of this book will keep you drooling for the second. It's filled with more witches, magic, hot love, and a pretty intense curse.
Your heart will die.

BOOK #3, Shades of Doon
Things start to suck butts in the third book. Not plot wise, but plot wise. Did that make sense? Both Vee and Kenna are still in Doon, but Vee becomes crazy ill and I hate it so much. And Jamie becomes a jerk. Duncan is still sweet, so it's okay. But the ending just hurts. And it isn't even the last book in the series. I feel hurt just writing this. Kill my soul. Now. Craps running wild in Doon and people are dying. Good, innocent, lovely, dying people! Doon goes from magical, to serious crap in an instant. Good Crap. Kind of? It grips you, and you feel genuine concern for your people. Yup. Your people.

I was lucky to be able to marathon these. But to the book nerds who just...just had to wait until the fourth book came out. How? And also I'm sorry for all of you who had to wait. No doubt it was painful. No doubt. And Vee and Kenna being torn out of Doon for a period of time? I was REALLY upset about this. Vee's life back at home was crap. And then she had to deal with all that crap all over again. I. AM. CRYING.

NOW THAT'S ENOUGH. STOP IT PARKER! JEEZ... abjdjsjkdkjfkjdfd. 😭

ANYWAYS...

Book #4, Forever Doon
The final book in the series. The one that almost killed me. Vee and Kenna are seperated, Vee and Jamie are...I CANNOT SAY! All hell breaks lose in the last book, and it's one of those last books that's actually good. Battle's, witches, love-that-needs-to-be-FOREVER. Hah, it's good. And it ends in a place that doesn't break your heart. I'm glad the third book broke me to pieces, scattering bits of my soul around like horcruxes (😏).

The last book left me in a good place, and left our lovable, laughable citizens of Doon still intact - for the most part. I ship Kenna and Duncan forever. Really I'm just picturing me as Kenna.

I'll leave you all with one last thought: KILTS. You're welcome book zombies. Now go, split your soul into pieces and hide them all over the world so you don't have to deal with book pain anymore.

Slytherin Out. ✌
