SHUT UP AND READ: Never Ever

I'll never grow up.

I'm way to sensible for that.

Hey, how's it going?

Today's a great day. Not just because it's Saturday. Because I am recommending one of the books from my massive Peter Pan collection. Yes. I do have a collection of Peter Pan books and retellings (😏). And it happens to be my favorite collection of all.

I'm pulling a book off my shelf. A book that I love. So much.

A book that you need to SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, AND READ. I love all of you. But Liz, what is this book?

Never Ever

This. Book. Is. Beautiful. Weird, but beautiful. It floated around with enough magic to keep me completely captivated and intrigued. Or, I just love Peter Pan. Shut up.

Written by author Sara Saedi, it truly stole my guts. How romantic.

But what's it about?
The story follows a girl named Wylie Dalton (also known as Wendy) who is in high school with her two brothers, Joshua and Micah (John and Michael). Now, I know. Wylie is a stupid name. No offense to all of you Wylie's out there, but sorry. No. I made my peace with that though, a long, long time ago. A. LONG. TIME. AGO. Damn, it still hurts.

But anyways, the book takes place in Manhattan, among the chaos that is Wylie's life. Joshua, the middle child, is going to juvie. Once upon a time, he was the golden boy who dreamed of a successful life in politics in his future, but because of an incident, he's now leaving for juvie. Micah, the youngest, is extremely shy and struggles with anxiety, of which he sometimes carries booze around with him to settle his nerves. And there families a complete mess, parents included. Wylie's mom and dad just aren't getting along because of something Wylie's dad did.

So the three of them, sneaking away from a boring dinner with their parents, decide to go to a rooftop party. In walks Phinn (also known as Peter). He's charming and a little weird. And in just a spell, he gives them all a plant that makes the three of them fly, whisking them off on his boat and eventually to an island WHERE NO ONE AGES PAST SEVENTEEN.

And here's where all the fun shit happens. There's a scene. Where they get to the island. And Micah pulls out his flask and takes a swig. I don't know why, but it made me laugh. I really don't know why. But buckle up, my nerds. There's danger on the island due to some crazy kid named Hopper (Hook). I know...what a stupid name for Hook...but oh well.

And everything is not as it seems. Neither is Phinn. So hold on, dear fellow nerds, and get ready to read a book you will totally feel betrayed by because you thought it was a stand alone, and now your emotions are all screwed up about your childhood love, also known as Peter Pan. Because he might be a jerk. Or a psychopath. But, remember, I said might.

Get ready to cry, swoon, and want to punch people in the face. This is a retelling you will NEVER EVER forget. I'm still angsty for that second book, author. Hello? Can you hear me?

So come jump ship to a reimagined Neverland, where I narrate everything like it is a movie. Damn, I'm in a weird mood today. No, but seriously, it's a pretty good book. It pretty much ripped my soul out again when I read this. But don't puke when Wendy is renamed Wylie. I know. I threw up in my mouth.

But read it. Seriously.

Okay. Bye.

Off to Neverland. Be back Never Ever.

Lot's of 💙 and 🍵,

💙Liz
