Mini Library Haul
Hey,
How's it going?
Libraries are fantastic. It's true. Free books. FREE BOOKS EVERYDAY.
Back in the child years, I used to ride my bicycle to the library almost on the daily. I lived near a small town, so it was totally safe. Totally. I had many fond memories of carrying 20+ books out of the library with a smirk on my face. The librarians always looked at me like I was crazy. "Ya sure you can read all of that?" Oh. I'M SURE. I argued my way out of fines, and always enjoyed making friends with the librarians. Many of them knew me by name.
That said, let's get into the library haul.
swish, swash, SWOOSH!
1. Carry On
So I've been hearing about this book by Rainbow Rowell for the longest time ever. It just won't stop. EVER. Apparently it's awesome. It's a mock telling of our beloved Harry Potter, following a dude named Simon Snow who basically sucks at being the Chosen One. Baz, his roommate at the Watford School of Magicks, as well as his arch nemesis, is a primary jerk to him. Simon is navigating life as a sucky Chosen One, along with his girlfriend breaking up with him and a load of shit crapping down on him. Mhm. Yes.
Before even opening the book, the cover made me want to barf. However, upon opening it, the school map was revealed and I said to myself, "alright, this won't be too bad." I'm hoping the read is a success for me. I've only heard the best about it and hope it lives up to that. Because, when has a book not lived up to the hype?
Ha. Ha. Ha.
MOVING ON.
2. As I Descended
I was looking for something I haven't heard of. Something unique, but dark. You know, to balance out the funny book I checked out. Normal thought process, really. That's when I found As I Descended, by Robin Talley. Also, in this second book I picked out, the authors name isn't super ginormous to where you may think it's the title of the book (😇). The cover looked pretty sweet, and it got better when I read the synopsis. It opens with, "Something wicked this way comes..." Yes. I will take that. Please. The story follows two girls, Maria and Lily, who I'm guessing are a secret couple. Apparently the only person who stands in their way is a golden queen named Delilah at their Academy - first off, all books that have to do with Academies or boarding schools are usually awesome. Continuing.
Delilah seems like a bitch. If she found out about Maria and Lily, she could ruin their lives or something. So Maria and Lily set out on a quest to destroy Delilah. They are out to dethrone Delilah of the Kingsley Prize, a full ride scholarship to a school of their choice. And this is where shit gets dark. Maria and Lily will stop at nothing, even if it means harnessing some dark power that is rumored to be present on the former plantation houses of their school.
Seriously, though, this is giving me major Nancy Drew vibes. There's a Nancy Drew book that has a similar plot; where all of the girls are after some kind of curse to win a scholarship prize. And I have no problem with that. I'm super excited to die from this book.
Well, dear bookish nerds, that's it for my Mini Library Haul. I've gotta get lost in a world of books right now.
Peace out. ✌
